Plastic packaging is everywhere, and so is the waste it leaves behind. It clogs oceans, harms wildlife, and sits in landfill for centuries and beyond. But it’s also a wildly useful product – and so the search for better alternatives goes on.
Enter Xampla. Their materials (which they call Morro) offer a natural, plant-based alternative to plastic coatings used across a wide range of packaging types. Made from renewable ingredients like pea protein and rapeseed, Morro replaces conventional plastics with fully biodegradable films and coatings that break down safely at home. It’s a simple swap that reduces pollution without compromising quality or durability.
Xampla is already working with brands such as Just Eat Takeaway, proving that sustainable packaging can meet the demands of modern food and retail sectors. This is not the first time Just Eat has explored plastic alternatives. We are proud to have been involved in one such relationship – with Notpla, who pioneered the use of seaweed as a plastic alternative. Notpla’s solution has also been used by Lucozade at big events such as London Marathon, bringing it into consumers’ hands.
Together, Xampla and Notpla demonstrate how innovative bio-based materials can tackle plastic pollution effectively. We’re excited to continue exploring and supporting similar solutions that help reduce waste and build a truly circular economy.
