Get up, stand up

4 February, 2022

This week on the goods, we wanted to share something with  music fans out there who want to stand up for the environment.

And who embraced the world of music and nature better than Bob Marley himself? The House of Marley, a brand built in collaboration with the Marley family, seeks to carry on the singer’s legacy to music and the planet. It creates high quality audio devices such as headphones and speakers made from carefully selected sustainable materials. Whether it’s FSC certified wood, sustainable bamboo and recycled or upcycled cotton, plastics or other materials, we love its attention to detail as well as its beautiful aesthetic.

What’s more, it donates to charitable causes and plants trees… Could this be love?

And then we wanted to highlight another brand: Gerrard Street, and not just because we share a common love of our street in Soho, but because it is a subscription-based modular headphone company. That means that you can pay a subscription fee and rent your headphones until you want to stop using them, which reduces wastes and makes listening to high quality music more affordable. Or you can purchase a pair and benefit from lifelong access to new parts should your headphones be damaged, free of charge, which helps to keeps a pair of headphones for longer.

We know that electronics waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the world according to a UN report, so we are excited to see these brands take a stand early on and find solution to this growing problem.
