A fresh way to think about food this January

16 January, 2026

January comes with a familiar checklist: eat better, spend less, reset everything. After the cheese, the booze, and the mince pies of December, most of us feel a fresh start is overdue.

So, we scroll through tips, try Dry January, maybe flirt with Veganuary. But what if January wasn’t just about saying no and more about asking how?

That’s where Regenuary comes in. Launched by The Ethical Butcher in 2020, it’s a growing movement with a simple question at its core: what’s on your plate and what did it take to get there? Instead of cutting out food groups, Regenuary encourages us to look deeper and choose food that’s local, seasonal, and grown with care for the land.

Industrial farming remains one of the leading drivers of biodiversity loss and carbon emissions. Regenuary invites us to rethink the system and to eat food that works with nature, not against it, by supporting regeneratively raised meat, organic vegetables, smaller farms, and better practices.

One of the UK’s best-known champions of this approach is Knepp. Once a conventional farm, now a beacon of rewilding, Knepp lets nature lead by restoring habitats, reviving soil, and producing pasture-raised meat in ways that are good for wildlife.

This January, Knepp is offering Wild Range meat boxes, with meat that is regeneratively sourced, sustainably packed, and frozen for freshness. So, if you’re setting intentions this year, start with your plate and ask how what’s on that plate got there. And remember: better choices are always on the table.
