Bias in plain sight

13 February, 2026

In an age defined by information overload, online echo chambers, and increasingly polarised narratives, the news aggregator Ground News, stands out as a genuinely useful tool for anyone who wants to stay informed without being misled. Instead of organising news by outlet, Ground groups coverage by story. This simple shift changes the entire news‑reading experience because it lets you see how different outlets report the same event and how their political leanings shape the narrative.

The app pulls reporting from across the media spectrum and provides independent bias ratings for each source, including left, centre, and right. At a glance, you can understand whether a story is covered evenly or dominated by one side. The Blindspot feature adds another layer by highlighting stories that are reported heavily by one end of the political spectrum and underreported by the other. This helps readers uncover gaps in their own media diet and counter the confirmation bias that naturally influences us all.

Ground does not claim that any outlet is unbiased, because none truly are. Instead, it gives readers tools to compare perspectives, question assumptions, and regain a sense of control over how they consume information. In a democracy, informed citizens matter. And informed citizens need balanced and transparent access to information.

By showing how narratives differ and encouraging critical thinking, Ground offers a practical way to counter digital tunnel vision. It reminds us that what we focus on shapes how we understand the world, and that broadening our perspective is one of the simplest and most powerful steps we can take.
