Changing nappies?
14 January, 2022
Approximately 3 billion nappies end up in landfill each year in the UK. The waste involved with diapers is far from uplifting but there exists an innovative and promising solution: DYPER.
DYPER is a subscription service which is based in the US, though you can also buy them here in the UK. Their nappies are compostable, comprising responsibly sourced bamboo viscose as the main material. They also promise an ultra-soft, odourless and breathable experience – fulfilling the aim of delivering baby satisfaction whilst ensuring biodegradability and landfill avoidance.
The positive environmental impact of DYPER’s product has not gone unnoticed. Our friends at The Craftory have made a USD$20m investment into DYPER to ‘support its expansion and amplify its impact’. The venture capital firm has a solid reason to outclass DYPER over other brands: it is directly confronting the problem of unsustainable disposable diapering.
DYPER has also launched its own responsible disposal programme REDYPER. Nappies are mailed away to be composted, using packages engineered to strict HazMat shipping standards and reaching their end in the vegetation on highway medians – adding nutrients to the soil and reducing landfill waste.
The environmentally- and baby-positive nature of this product catches our eye and we would love to see it integrated into the UK baby-care market. The Craftory have made a wise decision investing in DYPER, we’re all for responsible and impactful innovation in the nappy world.
