Drive less
17 May, 2024
Do you rely too heavily on your car? When was the last time you checked your cycling route to work or bus schedules for the school run? Perhaps this summer is the time to take steps to benefit both the planet and your wallet.
Join We Are Possible, an organization dedicated to fighting the effects of climate change, in their Going Car Free Challenge this summer. You might wonder, why bother? The reality is that transport is a major contributor to climate change. By reducing our reliance on cars, we can reduce our own carbon footprints.
But that’s not all. Going car-free can also save you money. In a 2022 car-free trial, We Are Possible found that participants saved about £30 a week each. And if you’re particularly ambitious and take even more car-free days, you could end up with substantial savings. Plus, taking a break from driving can add some variety to your usual routines and improve your wellness by incorporating exercise, such as cycling, into your day.
The challenge runs from 1st to 30th June, taking advantage of what we hope will be summer weather. It will suggest different activities like talking about the challenge with friends and family and seeking ways to make the streets more people friendly. You will also receive digital badges to showcase your participation, with prizes up for grabs.
So, are you up for the challenge? Sign up for the Car Free Challenge and become part of the movement towards a greener, healthier future.
