Pulse pioneers
30 September, 2022
As the weather starts to get colder, are you looking to cook up some delicious autumnal soups, stews and casseroles, but don’t know where to find your sustainably and locally produced pulses and grains? We know just the thing for you, and we’re spilling the beans in this week’s Goods.
After discovering the British public were keen beans for British-grown indigenous pulses through their Great British Beans trial project, Nick, Josiah and William founded Hodmedod’s to supply lesser-known British beans and pulses, from fava beans to black badger peas, to the masses. They work with British farmers across the country to supply quality ingredients grown through fair and sustainable means (and usually organic) in a range of forms, from delicious snacks, spices and grains to condiments and canned pulses. The Hodmedod’s team have overcome the infamous British climate and challenged the naysayers who said it couldn’t be done to bring us British grown lentils and some of the first British grown quinoa. And not only are they delicious, versatile, and sustainably grown, Hodmedod’s indigenous beans and pulses are also highly nutritious. They’re a significant source of vitamins and minerals, and an excellent source of protein (especially for the veggies and vegans out there).
Having won numerous awards, including the BBC Food and Farming Awards Best Food Producer and several Great Taste awards, Hodmedod’s are certainly worth a taste. Head to their website to browse their wide range of products, or visit your local wholefoods store to get your British bean fix.
