A Dame good product
1 July, 2021
For the ‘Goods’ series this week, we’re heading to the bathroom and talking about good period products.
Many sustainable period products have popped up in recent years, including Callaly’s innovative ‘Tampliner’, various brands of menstrual cups, reusable pads, and absorbent period underwear. We’re thrilled that so many options now exist but the one we wanted to draw your attention to is Dame’s reusable tampon applicator.
Not only are these a sustainable alternative to tampons with single-use plastic applicators, they’re more comfortable to use than their disposable counterparts. Their surfaces are anti-microbial for good hygiene and they’re also really well-designed and tested – they even consulted a rocket scientist to factor in friction when designing the applicators!
Dame delivers to your door in cardboard packaging and the only plastic they contain is the small amount around each cotton tampon, rather than the wrapper and plastic applicator offered by mainstream brands. It’s also saved 6 million single-use applicators through its reusable nature.
Dame’s accessories, such as its travel pouch and branded storage tin, make it feel like a luxury instead of a sanitary product. And, if you’re not a fan of tampons, they also offer reusable pads too, with period pants on the way soon.
Dame is also a fellow B-Corp and its mission is to end the negative social norms around periods. We think they’re doing a bloody good job!
