Homebound adventurers

10 April, 2020

This Easter weekend will be an unusual one for many of us. But being away from our families and stuck indoors doesn’t mean it has to be boring.

Google has provided a great starting place for cultural exploration with its collection of stories, quizzes and photos that allow us to meet our ancestors, learn about the birth of the Olympics, or explore various galleries, museums and monuments. If a virtual tour of a museum isn’t enough, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles are encouraging people at home torecreate famous artworkswith objects around the house and share them using the hashtag #betweenartandquarantine. Even if you don’t fancy making a mess, the results are fantastic. If you want to take it to the next level and emulate the weekend adventures you might otherwise be embarking on, GoPro is giving away cameras for the most impressive and inventive creations shared with #HomePro which are well worth checking out for some inspiration or entertainment.

There are many more traditional entertainment options available, even if you have to go digital. You can play board games with friends or family, for example, take a yoga class with Hotpod Yoga, whilst raising money for the NHS, or tune into the 10 Today exercise classes for older people.

Technology is often cast as thvillain of modern society and a barrier to meaningful relationships. But it also has great power to bring people together, help us get creative and allow us to explore from the comfort of our homes. This is making the current challenges slightly more bearable – we can only imagine how much more difficult this would have been even five years ago. We hope you all have a restful, fun and memorable break – even if it isn’t the one you planned.
