Let’s talk taboos
24 May, 2024
What’s the wildest topic you’ve ever discussed with your co-workers or friends? Have you ever talked about poo? STIs? Mental health disorders? If you haven’t, it’s most likely because these topics are taboo — those things we don’t talk about, even though many of us have experienced them.
While avoiding these subjects is often the norm, it also breeds problems. Not talking about STIs, for instance, makes it harder to share information on prevention. Some mental health disorders are rarely discussed openly, leading to misunderstanding and stigma. The list goes on.
Enter the Talking Taboos Foundation, an organization we were proud to be involved in creating a few years ago, dedicated to breaking down these barriers one conversation at a time. In just a couple of years, the Talking Taboos Foundation has taken off, making headway in shedding light on taboos in our communities through what they describe as “practical frankness”.
And now they are back with another eye-opening event. Join them on 5th June from 7:00 pm-9:30 pm for the “Deep Dive into Daily Disgusts“, taking place (appropriately) at the Vagina Museum in London. It’s a session dedicated to our bodies and other people’s bodies, and the things we find disgusting about them.
Discover new points of view and expert takes on things that give us the “ick” about our bodies. Engage in conversations you know we all need to have but shy away from. Register today and be part of a movement that’s changing the way we talk about the things that matter. Let’s make the uncomfortable comfortable, together.
