Wønki-ng in a winter wonderland

10 December, 2021

We love it when brands adapt sustainability hacks from other industries and this week’s goods does just that.

Manchester-based skincare brand grüum have taken their principle to minimise waste to a new level by offering customers the ability to buy ‘wønki’ body bar off-cuts that would otherwise go to waste. The idea reminds us of Oddbox, who sell wonky vegetables that are rejected by other retailers or restaurants. The difference here is that grüum is taking responsibility for its own waste, selling all the cut-offs from their såpa bars to massively cut the waste generated in production.

The wønki bags are available in either 500g or 1kg sizes (roughly equivalent to 5 or 10 full-sized bars). Each bag contains a lucky dip of såpa scents, and customers can save over 50% by buying a mixed bag compared to the usual såpa bars. If you need further convincing, the bars are also plastic-free, cruelty-free, and handmade in England.

We hope that more companies will follow grüum’s lead and think creatively about how they can minimise waste in their operations. We also reckon that these bars would make brilliant stocking fillers – why not check them out?
